Plums & Roses Garden Design is a small, professional gardening firm based in Portsmouth, providing expert, specialist services in design, landscaping and maintenance to produce and sustain wonderful planting schemes for year-round beauty and interest.

‘Plums & Roses’ was established as a specialist garden design and maintenance business in 2007 by Tom Stilwell.

Prior to this, Tom achieved a National Certificate in Horticulture and Garden Design, worked for several years on a large country estate in Hampshire learning the arts of gardening with the Head Gardener, and then for a Chelsea Flower Show award-winning landscape and design company before running his own business as a professional gardener.

He has also been a teacher in Dorset and Spain and brings to his work his love of nature and the outdoors.

The business is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire and also operates in West Sussex and the South Downs.

Tom works closely with a team of skilled associates according to the needs of any given project.

With a passion for plants and an artistic vision, ‘Plums & Roses’ wants to give you the very best in terms of year-round beauty and interest so you will love your garden.

Many important factors need to be considered when designing a planting scheme for a garden. These could include colour combinations, scent, shape, form, texture, type of soil, aspect and condition of site, plant habit, spacing of plants, flowering seasons, maintenance requirements, understanding the difference between the cultivars of any given plant, acquiring quality plants that are good in size and value from reputable suppliers.
